Background: Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan (AKHS, P) runs one of the largest not-for-profit private healthcare systems in the country, with a focus on the regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh. Its core focus includes initiatives for hard-to-reach populations through services like outreach clinics, training of community midwives to provide low-cost health services in remote areas, screening for non-communicable diseases, and digital health solutions.
Job Summary: The Clinical Technician-Dental will provide preventive and basic curative oral health services, assist the Dental Surgeon in clinical procedures, ensure infection prevention standards, maintain dental equipment, and support oral health promotion activities within the facility and outreach areas.
Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan, is looking for a competent Clinical Technician-Dental based at RHC Shagram, Upper-Chitral in Chitral Region.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Clinical and Technical Services:
- Assist the Dental Surgeon during dental procedures and ensure proper preparation of instruments and materials.
- Provide basic dental services as per scope of practice, including scaling, polishing, temporary fillings, and basic oral care support.
- Prepare patients for dental procedures and provide post-treatment instructions.
- Support screening and triage of dental patients and identify cases requiring referral.
B. Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
- Ensure sterilization and disinfection of dental instruments using standard protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness of dental unit, working surfaces, and procedure area.
- Ensure safe disposal of sharps and medical waste according to facility guidelines.
- Follow universal precautions and ensure patient safety at all times.
C. Equipment and Supply Management
- Maintain dental equipment, instruments, and tools in functional condition.
- Report faulty equipment to the supervisor and coordinate repair needs.
- Ensure availability of dental consumables and maintain proper stock records.
- Assist in forecasting and requesting dental supplies.
D. Record Keeping and Reporting
- Maintain daily OPD dental register and patient treatment records.
- Ensure proper documentation of procedures, referrals, and follow-up cases.
- Submit regular reports to the facility management as required.
E. Health Education and Community Outreach
- Conduct oral health education sessions for patients and community groups.
- Support awareness campaigns on oral hygiene, prevention of tooth decay, and gum diseases.
- Participate in school health programs and outreach dental camps when required.
F. Coordination and Teamwork
- Coordinate with medical staff and facility management to ensure smooth service delivery.
- Maintain professional behavior and patient confidentiality.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma in Dental Technology from a recognized institute with registration with relevant professional body (if required).
- Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Knowledge of infection prevention protocols and dental equipment handling.
- Results-driven, ethical and adaptable professional with a strong service and stakeholder focus.
- Strong integrity with the sensitivity to manage confidential information.
- Demonstrates superior organizational skills and the agility to multitask and assume changing strategic responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
