Know our Team / Project

Universal salt iodization (USI) and Large Scale Food Fortification programs are key Nutrition International (NI)’s programs operational in Pakistan along with interventions for improving nutrition status of general public. To improve program effectiveness, NI is looking for a Provincial Manager, to be based at Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), to lead USI program and provide technical assistance to the provincial and district Departments of Health (DoH), Food departments/ Authorities and other government departments and industry (salt processors, wheat flour and oil millers), of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as required.

About you

You are a Postgraduate in public health, nutrition, medicine, health systems management, international development, social science and/or a related field including medical degree.

At least 5 to 7 years experience  of working with (I)NGOs or UN agency in public health and nutrition  programming in Pakistan preferably on Food Fortification.

Fluency in English & Urdu is required. And Knowledge of regional languages of the province(s) like   Pashto and Hindko etc. will be an advantage.

About the role

Under the guidance and supervision of the National Program Officer, the Provincial Manager, KP will be responsible for the successful implementation of these programs in his/her respective province(s) in consultation and coordination with DoH,  food department and food authority, other government departments, industry representatives (salt processors, Wheat Flour and Oil Millers), Non-Governmental Organizations, donors and other stakeholders working in nutrition sector, academia, and research institutes.

The Provincial Manager KP specific tasks will include:

  • Support in review and finalizing annual implementation plans in consultation with provincial and district-level government counterparts of KP for USI Program.
  • Work with provincial USI teams to translate the developed national program plan into provincial and district plans that will facilitate implementation of program activities across the province and support provincial cross-learning and buy-in by the government.
  • Take lead in the constitution/reactivation of Provincial Task Force/working groups/committees, Provincial Iodine Deficiency Disorder Control Committee (PIDDCC) on salt iodization,  in order to promote USI in province and as required and participate in these Task Forces/working groups/committees and act as a resource person and provide technical and programmatic inputs.
  • In consultation with the DoH, Food Authorities in KP and third party managing revolving fund  to ensure proper distribution and usage of Potassium Iodate for production of adequately iodized salt.
  • Ensure conducting trainings for all industry partners (salt processors, Wheat Flour and Oil Millers) who require training and refresher courses on salt iodization and fortification process and QA/QC at production level.
