General Position Summary

The driver will provide safe, transport services for MC program and support staff in the described AOR (Area of Responsibility). The driver will adhere to all traffic and MC safety rules and follow the transport guidelines required by the MC transport department.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Operate MC vehicles as assigned by supervisor, ensuring safe and timely transportation of staff and goods.
  • Maintain vehicle log-sheets in accordance with MC policies and transport regulations.
  • Conduct routine Checks the vehicle conditions before and after each trip/routinely – and promptly report any maintenance needs and problems to transport management.
  • Strictly Adhere to all Mercy Corps safety and communication protocols at all times including when traveling along as advised by Mercy Corps and supervisor.
  • Ensure the Responsible for the safekeeping of all vehicle equipment, tools (including first aid kits, spares parts and other Accessories etc.
  • Keep the vehicle ready, clean, fueled and ready on standby – ready for use at all times.
  • Assist with the daily logistics tasks required, with logistics in the office, warehouse as required and guesthouse daily workloads.
  • During field visits, park vehicles are only in designated or secure locations as assigned by the supervisor, preferably within safe compounds with boundary walls, gates, and security personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with all security protocols, including:
  • Maintaining close coordination with the security department during travel.
  • Sharing travel/tracking information before and during field movements.
  • Reporting any incidents or suspicious activities immediately to the designated security focal person.
  • Try to avoid unnecessary stops and always keep personal and vehicle safety in mind
  • Never leave the vehicle unattended in unsecured areas; always prioritize secure parking practices, especially in high-risk environments or during overnight stays.
  • Adhere to safe driving practices on highways, motorways, and rural roads; strictly follow state law, law and order guidelines, and all traffic regulations.
  • Demonstrate respectful and professional behavior toward all team members, particularly female colleagues, and uphold Mercy Corps’ values at all times.
  • Safely transport Mercy Corps assets, including proper placement of cartons, equipment, and supplies as required.
  • Provide courteous support to staff and visitors during field movements and assist in resolving any transport-related challenges
  • Cooperate and be of assistance to staff and visitors – assist in troubleshooting potential problems during daily business.
  • Undertake field assignments as assigned.
  • Adherence to all MC policies and procedures as outlined in MC policies and procedure manuals.
  • Work night shifts at MC office (if required) – as assigned by supervisor with the understanding these are 8-hour shift.
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission in country of operation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
